Microsoft’s Next-Gen Touch Screen

A ‘touchscreen’ by definition is an input device normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system. A user can give input or control the information processing system through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen or more fingers.

Well!! That may change, as an expert team of Microsoft researchers have developed pre-sensing technology that anticipates touch even before it is physically touched. It may sound surreal, but the technology has already been developed. Microsoft says it works by monitoring a variety of different factors, such as speed at which fingers are travelling, location of fingers in relation to the screen, the user’s hand angle etc.

Another exiting feature of Microsoft's new pre-sensing touch technology is the grip detection. Researchers say that the device, which is in the prototype stage, can determine if the user is single hand or both hands. With this, the display will then reveal menus and options that are optimized according to the user's hand placement.
