Popular tech giant Microsoft is in
a fix again as regulators from the EU are scrutinizing the company over its
licensing deals and cloud business. Over the last decade, Microsoft was fined
by the European Commission almost $1.8 billion for various violations regarding
antitrust matters. The European Commission has asked the company’s customers
and competitors about Microsoft’s licensing deals and cloud business through a
questionnaire. Moreover, other big names in the segment, along with NextCloud,
have also filed complaints about Microsoft’s unfair cloud practices.
The report has highlighted the part where the regulators asked Microsoft if it is creating a healthy environment for rivals to compete with maximum efficiency. The EU regulators have also asked whether the tech giant needs productivity applications and Microsoft OS along with cloud offering to give fair competition. The questionnaire had asked the consumers and companies if they are paying the same fees for the services and what are the commercial deals with other programs and cloud service providers. The questionnaire stated that the Commission has all the necessary information needed to show that Microsoft is misusing its dominant position in the market to stay ahead of the curve and foreclose any competition.
