IBM has grabbed a huge deal in Africa as banks are looking forward to shifting to digital

Tech giant IBM has recently made an announcement that it has won the hybrid cloud deal with one of the biggest banks in Africa. This also includes Attijariwafa Bank from Morocco and Nedbank from South Africa. The main motto of the deal is to pivot the banks to use the internet to store large amounts of data. As of now, IBM is working with more than six banks on the continent-spanning from Nigeria to Mozambique. The deal will make sure that the company’s data will be stored internally in a private cloud and public clouds.

Hillery Hunter, VP of IBM cloud, has stated that the technologies used by banks working with them in Africa are a part of the company’s hybrid cloud technology, and during the pandemic, the companies wanted to improve and open more mobile and digital banking because there were just a few retail locations. The landscape of financial services has become more competitive in Africa, with many MNCs and banks entering the segment. Business leaders in Africa are contending with other big names in the segment, which offer services that allow people to transfer cash from the simplest of phones. Mobile network companies have also joined the race by making the shift to digital.

DISH is all set to join hands with IBM to create a new cloud-native 5G network

DISH, a popular network corporation, has recently made an announcement that it is partnering with Big Blue IBM to work in the US’ cloud-native 5G network. DISH has stated that IBM will be responsible for providing AI-powered network and automation services and solutions to onboard 5G capabilities to DISH’s operations and business platforms. Marc Rouanne, chief network officer of DISH Wireless, has stated that their company’s 5G build will be different from the rest as they are now creating a network of networks where organizations can customize a network slice or a group to meet their pre-set business goals.

The orchestration solutions from IBM are designed to make use of automation, ML, and AI to not only allow slices to be possible but also help the companies overcome obstacles when the customer preferences evolve. Furthermore, Marc added that with IBM, they combine the latency and speed of 5G with intelligence and customization of cloud to give a paradigm shift to SMEs, big corporations, and other wireless industries. The team at DISH will now be mixing IBM’s Cloud Pak with the company’s 5G network architecture to create an intent-based orchestration feature. This is expected to help in stitching software and hardware resources together more efficiently and seamlessly.
