As of now, the company's main motto is to make its emission percentage zero and help its partners bring down their emissions to 50 percent
Back in 2021, popular tech company Microsoft has managed to cut its emission by 17 percent. Recent sustainability reports show that the emission percentage was dwarfed because of the Scope 3 emission from the company's supply chain. As a response to the highlighted detail in the report, executives from Microsoft have stated that the company makes sure to eliminate Scope 1 and 2 emissions as it is under the direct control of the company, but it is difficult to eliminate Scope 3 as it generated by the consumers and partners.
As of now, the company's main motto is to make its emission percentage zero and help its partners bring down their emissions to 50 percent. In 2021, Microsoft had paid for removing 1.4mn metric tons of carbon from the air, and it is now planning to remove more than 1.5mn metric tons this year. Microsoft in 2021 has also certified two of its data centers as zero waste data centers. The company's strategy is to become carbon negative by 2030. This is expected to be achieved by bringing Scope 1 and 2 to zero and by adopting new methods, solutions, and purchase of zero-carbon energy.
